ISO 9001:2000 is an international standard for the management of the quality system. Each organization must meet the requirements of the standard in a way that fits their business needs.

Underlying intents of the standard are customer satisfaction, management with data and continual improvement. These tenets of quality management are rooted in the teachings of Dr Deming, Dr Juran and Dr Drucker among others.

While ISO 9001:2000 is a Quality Management System (QMS), it is truly a business management system. As such, all departments should be included in the QMS.
