QMS Implementation

Implementation of a Quality Management System (QMS) is a strategic decision for a company. Cost and amount of time necessary depends on the resources that the company can put to the effort and state of the current quality system.

It is best to assess the current “as is” quality system and compare this to the quality standard; be it ISO 9001, AS9100 or other standard.

A team of managers should use the assessment results to plan the implementation. Training should be a task planned for the early phases of the implementation to ensure understanding and to start an internal audit system.

As policies and procedures are created and implemented, the internal audit process should be started to ensure proper implementation, understanding and to look for process improvements.

It is important to training employees and keep them informed during the entire implementation process.

ISO 9001 and AS9100 are little more than a set of good business practices.  These standards include the implementation of objectives, measurables and tracking of performance.  These objectives need to improve the bottom-line and/or aid the customer.  If they do not, you’re wasting your time.
